Cars vs. Cold: Car care center shares tips to keep you moving in the winter
JACKSON, Tenn. – As cold temperatures start to chill the area, what are some ways to keep your vehicle running smoothly?
There are many things to look out for when cold weather approaches when it comes to your vehicle. One of those is your tire pressure.
“The cold weather does affect the air pressure in the tires. So your tire light will probably come on. So that’s one thing to watch for,” said Christi Milam, an Advisor at the Old Hickory Car Care Center.
It is always good to have an air compressor on hand during this time of year. However, if you do not have one, most car care centers will gladly help you out. Also, most gas stations have.
“They can stop by any time. We can adjust all the air pressures in all the tires,” Milam said.
One of the most common problems that you will see is frost on the windshield. If you are not able to have your car stored in a garage or carport at night, you probably run into this problem every morning during cold weather.
Milam has some tips for you.
“Pre-start that car. If you’ve got automatic start, go ahead and turn it on and let the car warm up. Let that windshield get dry for you,” Milam said.
There is also one more big problem that Milam says you need to look out for.
“Deer. Watch out for deer. They’re everywhere in this cold weather. They’re traveling, so be watchful,” Milam said.
Milam also says it is a good idea to have a flashlight, blankets, and a full tank of gas.
Another good thing to keep an eye on is your vehicle’s battery.
