Toyota Tennessee celebrates 20 years in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local manufacturing plant is celebrating 20 years in the Hub City.

Toyota Tennessee broke ground in Jackson in 2003. Since then, they have had a hand in every single Toyota vehicle in North America. Jackson Mayor Scott Conger was there to give a proclamation.

“And whereas the City of Jackson and Madison County take great pride in honoring and supporting this local business community,” Conger stated. “Whereas Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tennessee broke ground on its Jackson-based plant on November 3rd, 2003. They have been an outstanding corporate citizen for the past 20 years. Whereas 450 Tennesseans contribute to the success of Toyota in Madison County daily by producing engine blocks for every Toyota vehicle in North America, as well as transmission casings and housing.”

The proclamation was presented to John Collins, a team member at Toyota Tennessee. He says he is incredibly appreciative of what the company does for all of the team members.

“It means a lot to us workers here at Toyota,” Collins said. “I’ve been here for quite some time. Toyota’s been great to me and my family. I am honored that they chose me to represent the team members. We have some of the hardest workers that work day in and night out.”

Plant president Wes Woods made it a point to say how important West Tennessee has been towards their growth. He says they would not be able to do this without the workers that our area provides.

“Jackson and West Tennessee has served us by giving us an incredible workforce,” Woods said. “People that are very capable to do what we need. From production team members, to skilled maintenance, engineers, across the board, everyone.”

Woods says they will continue to grow with the West Tennessee workforce over the next twenty years.

The plant can produce more than 2.5 million engine blocks and transmission casings, and housings each year.
