WBBJ team says ‘goodbye’ to forecaster/reporter Michelle Lilly
After helping bring the latest news and weather forecasts to the West Tennessee community for the past year, the WBBJ team is saying “goodbye” to Michelle Lilly. Joining the news team as Michelle Diaz in November ’22, she launched into the world of broadcast and quickly became a valuable co-worker that will be missed greatly here at the studio! Before she steps in front of the camera one last time, we had a few questions about her time with WBBJ.
What’s your experience been like working with the West Tennessee community?
Amazing! I’ve always taken on roles that somehow involve me working with the community, but working for WBBJ as a forecaster/reporter does not compare to any other job I’ve ever had. From forecasting weather to covering local (even breaking) news, it’s been a one of a kind experience for me. Growing up I was always an introvert and never wanted to be “put out there”, but now there’s nothing like getting to meet great people in West Tennessee each and every time I’m out covering an event. There is truly nothing like southern hospitality.
Do you have any favorite experiences or memorable moments while covering stories?
As a forecaster– covering severe weather was always nerve wracking to me but knowing I kept the community informed helped me get through it each time.
As a reporter – although every story is unique and a totally different experience each time, I must say covering Educator of the Week each week during the school year has been the highlight for me. Going into classes and seeing children’s faces light up because “the news” is there honoring their teacher was always the best.
What would you say to the viewers who have supported you?
Thank you to everyone who has kept up with me since December of last year, the feedback and love I have received since has been amazing. Never thought I would ever work in broadcasting, and although it was hard for me to begin with, this chapter will always be special to me. You can definitely do anything you set your mind to doing.
What’s next for you?
For those who don’t know, I am a real estate agent here in West Tennessee! Growing and becoming more involved in the community has always been the goal for me.
Not only that, I recently married the love of my life (I go by Michelle Lilly now!) and I am now on a journey of becoming a first time mommy! Although I aspire to grow more within the community as a Realtor, forming my own family and being a mom will be unlike any role I’ve taken on before and I could not be more blessed.
