West Tennesseans take strides against suicide
JACKSON, Tenn.—Walking is not only healthy, but it brings about a change.
Volunteers from all over West TN joined together for the annual Walk for Suicide Prevention.
The walk was held at 9 this morning until 12 this afternoon
These walks are about turning hope into action.
While suicide touches one in five American families, the plan is to draw attention to this issue and keep families from experiencing a suicide loss.
Before the event concluded today, the event had already raised $18,000.
“I personally attempted suicide in 2012 and came away from that experience with the feeling that nobody else should have to go through what I went through. Nobody should have to struggle with that by themselves, ” said Halli Drake, Director of American Suicide Foundation.
Volunteers, walkers, teams and sponsors are being actively recruited for the next event.
