The rain deficit continues to get worse across the Mid South and West Tennessee as most of our viewing area is under an extreme or severe drought. There is some rain in the forecast with most of us seeing between 1/2″-1″ of rain with a few folks seeing close to 1.5″ southeast of Jackson where we need the rain the most.

TONIGHT:

The warmest day of the week and this current heat spell was on Wednesday. Highs reached the low 80s and we hit 82° in Jackson falling short of the record 84° set back in 2015. It was the warmest November day though since 2016. We saw a few more clouds towards the back half of the day on Wednesday. The big story of the day was the sustained winds around 15-20 MPH, with gusts over 30 MPH in the afternoon. The winds will weaken some overnight but remain breezy as the front approaches. Wednesday night lows will only fall down to the low 60s. The next front is going to pass by early Thursday morning.

THURSDAY:

After several warm and dry days to kick off the work week, changes are expected to return on Thursday. Rain showers will return early in the afternoon and get heavier as the evening and night progress. We are not expecting severe weather or big storms, but a few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out as the front passes Thursday morning. Most of West Tennessee will pick up at least 1/2″ of rain with many locations seeing over 1″ Some areas might even get up close to 1.5″ by Friday afternoon. Thursday highs will reach up to around 70° and expect mostly cloudy skies and cloudy conditions overnight. The winds will start out of the southwest but shift back to the northwest early Thursday after the front passes. Thursday night lows will dip down to the mid 40s.

FRIDAY:

Rain showers are likely to continue for the first half of the day on Friday before clearing out sometime into the afternoon. As of now, although the football fields will be wet, it appears the rain will have stopped falling by kickoff for the Friday night playoff games. Highs on Friday will reach the mid 50s and Friday night lows will drop all the way down to around 40°.

The clouds may try to clear out Friday evening/night and depending on the amount of clouds, will determine the temperatures for the football games. As of now it looks like temperatures will be in the 40s for during the games. Winds will come out of the north and be a bit breezy at times as the system clears out.

THE WEEKEND:

Saturday is Veteran’s Day, so please thank a veteran this weekend for all they have sacrificed for us. The weather this weekend looks to be a bit chilly and as of now, we think it is going to be dry. There will be a low pressure system passing just south of us so the rain showers will be close. We will be keeping a close eye on the forecast as the week progresses. Highs this weekend will reach up to around 60° and morning lows will hang around 40°. We are expecting partly cloudy skies and the winds will come out of the northeast most of the weekend as well, helping to keep the temperatures a few degrees below normal.

NEXT WEEK:

Temperatures next week look to be very close to normal for this time of the year. Highs will reach the mid 60s for the first half of the week and we are going to see partly cloudy skies in general. Morning lows will hang around 40° so each morning will be a bit chilly. The winds will come out of the north for the first half of the week before transitioning back to the southeast in the middle of the week. Rain showers are not in the forecast for the start of the week and chances look pretty slim as we head into the following weekend as well.

FINAL THOUGHT:

The first frost and freeze came last week and now we are dealing with record highs. Some cooler weather will look to return for the upcoming weekend. Rain looks to be on the way for Thursday and Friday, and that is some great news. We really need the rain badly as drought conditions are becoming extreme across most of West Tennessee.
