No injuries after SWAT called to Jackson Hotel
JACKSON, Tenn. – An incident in the Hub City led to SWAT teams being called to a local hotel.
According to officials with the Jackson Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Jackson Hotel and Convention Center around noon Wednesday.
“Domestic disturbance or domestic violence is violence committed by someone in the victim’s domestic circle. This usually includes a partner, an ex-partner, or immediate family members, or other relative’s family or friends,” said Stephanie Graham, the Public Information Office and Community Advisor for JPD.
Upon arrival, they discovered the suspect had barricaded himself inside a hotel room and refused to come out.
“For public safety, the hotel was immediately evacuated and officers put security measures in place. The hostage negotiation team, SWAT team, and criminal investigative divisions were activated to resolve the incident. Jackson Fire and emergency medical personnel were on scene,” Graham said.
After a couple of hours, police were able to negotiate with the suspect to leave the room. He was then escorted out of the hotel in handcuffs and placed into a police vehicle with no injuries to the suspect or law enforcement.
JPD officials also confirmed that there were no hostages involved in the incident.
“The safety of our city is always what is utmost important to the Jackson Police Department, as we are dedicated to protecting and serving the community. I know it alarms the community when they see SWAT team or hear of a hostage negotiation team, but we take those measures to ensure the public is safe,” Graham said.
JPD officials say the suspect has been charged with felony domestic assault and that the incident is under further investigation.
