Dorotha Holcomb Jackson Tn Obituary

Dorotha M. Holcomb, went to be with her Lord, Friday morning, November 10, 2023 at Northbrooke Health Care in Jackson, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s. She died peacefully with her nieces, Debbie Nichols and Sandy Mincher by her side.

Dorotha Omega Murley Holcomb was born November 26, 1927 in Henderson, TN, the first of four children born to Adolphus M. Murley and Katy M. Hornsby Murley. She married James R. Holcomb who preceded her in death.

She was educated in the Chester County School System and was a graduate of West Tennessee Business College and the American Institute of Banking. She was employed by what is now Cadence Bank, formerly BanCorp South, Jackson National Bank, and Second National Bank. She retired as Vice President in 1983 after 33 years of service.

Dorotha was past President of the Jackson Altrusa Club and Credit Women’s International, Inc. She was the past Chairman of the West Tennessee National Bank of Women. She served as a volunteer for the Red Cross. She was most proud of serving as the Chairman of the Altrusa Club’s Girl’s Club Committee which was instrumental in helping combine the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson. She served on the committee for many years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jackson and was active until her health began to fail.

Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Maude Murley; siblings, Nellie Ruth Murley Webb (Charles), and Adolphus H. “Sonny” Murley.

Dorotha is survived by one brother, James H. Murley (Wanda, deceased) of Nashville and one sister in law, Ester Mae Murley. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and their families, Deborah W. Nichols (Mike) of Oakfield, Sandra W. Mincher (Mike, deceased) of Pinson, Donna M. Hawkins (Terry) of Alabama, Sharon M. Landry (Bruce) of Texas, Adolphus H. “Hank” Murley, Jr. of Chattanooga, Philip L. Murley (Beverly) of Jackson, and Gary H. Murley (Dindra) of Nashville; There area host of great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gerry Campbell, Pastor of Northside Church, officiating. Burial will follow the service.

The family wishes to thank Mrs. Holcomb’s home sitters, the nurses and staff of Northbrooke Nursing Home, and Hospice of West Tennessee for their loving care over the years.
