New mural shows local man’s roots to Louisiana

HENDERSON, Tenn. – A local artist is continuing to do work around the area for local businesses.

Loralea Landrum is back in Henderson putting her artistic abilities to work for another local business.

Her latest mural is on North Church Avenue. She talked about why she has enjoyed these opportunities.

“I just love that I get to do art and do what I love for a living. I love that it brings people together,” Landrum said. “When I did the Chester County map, a lot of people stopped and told me about their stories and memories about Henderson.”

Robert Allen, a third generation business owner in Henderson, wanted this mural to showcase his hometown and where he grew up in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He had seen Landrum’s work and wanted to bring part of his childhood to Henderson.

“We thought it would be [necessary] to put something on a wall of what it was like back where I grew up in Louisiana. I just kind of gave her my thoughts and she brought it to life for me on a wall,” Allen said.

This is not the first mural that Landrum has done around the area. The Chester County Chamber of Commerce says they love to see these works of art pop up around the community.

“It’s always good for murals to go up in our town. It brings life to buildings by telling stories about the community which could potentially attract new business here in town. It always engages the community. You know, you will see people come in and stop to take pictures,” said Peyton Hemby, the Memberships and Events Coordinator for the chamber.

Landrum is already working on her next big project in Henderson at Besso’s Coffee.

Landrum is also available to do work inside, especially as the colder season approaches.
