Workers were out Wednesday milling areas on the corner of Johnson and Airways Boulevard.

This comes as the city received a new milling machine recently.

The machine is a planer attachment mounted to a skid-steer that cuts as deep as six inches.

What this does is mills old pot holes, cracks and other defects in the streets.

This machine is less expensive to maintain and more maneuverable than dedicated planers

Previously, the city would patch with a temporary hot mix.

Over time the intersection coming from Johnson onto Airways was destroyed from heavy equipment and trucks that pushed the mix out when making turns.

“What we’ll be doing with this machine here is we’ll be going back to those areas and where the potholes have been forming again, we can come back and mill again with that and make a permanent repair with that,” said Tennessee Street Department Superintendent Johnny Weddle.

The goal is to have the intersection completed and the roads open back up Wednesday evening.
