Human remains discovered in Benton County, investigation underway

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — An investigation is underway after human remains were discovered in one local county.

Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher says on Monday, the sheriff’s office was alerted to possible remains being discovered near a home in the west side of the county.

Sheriff Christopher says a family found a bone that they assumed was recovered by their dog.

Authorities responded to the scene and determined the bone was most likely human, and a search of the area was conducted.

According to Sheriff Christopher, the search resulted in the discovery of additional remains.

Sheriff Christopher says the remains have been taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Nashville for identification.

At this time, no further details have been confirmed by authorities. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
