Police chief discusses new Public Safety Fund

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson Police Department has teamed up with the Community Foundation of West Tennessee to launch the JPD Public Safety Fund.

This fund is intended to support the safety and security of the community. Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley explained more.

“What the intent of the fund is to kind of supplement our efforts in the community and reinvest funds from organizations and individuals who want to support those efforts from the police department to the community and be able to go out into the community and make those things happen,” Corley said.

Local community groups can request funds for different ways to support the community. After requesting, a board will decide on where to send the money. Chief Corley explained who will be on this board.

“The fund would be managed by a board. Community members. So no one from the government or no one from the police department will be involved in the decision making on how the funds will be allocated,” Corley said.

This announcement is happening a week before Giving Tuesday, which will be November 28.

The money that this fund will be providing will come from donations. Chief Corley says that if you have wanted to support the police department, this is a great way to do it.

“It puts an emphasis on giving back to the community or giving to nonprofit organizations. So that’s going to be our launch time. So if you are thinking about giving back to the community, this is a mechanism and a way to do that. So you can support the police department and what we do in the community,” Corley said.

Chief Corley says this will be money donated from the community to be put back into the community.

This fund is currently available to receive donations.

Chief Corley also says that there will be no problem with having these board meetings open to the public.
