Report shows average cost for Thanksgiving meal

JACKSON, Tenn. – With Thanksgiving just days away, should you just order a pizza instead of buying the traditional meal this Thanksgiving holiday?

Although pizza may be affordable, the American Farm Bureau reports the average cost for this year’s Thanksgiving meal in the south is less than in year’s past.

Shoppers across the United States can agree that this year’s price for groceries has gone up.

However, the American Farm Bureau has reported that this year’s Thanksgiving meal has decreased in price. They report it is down to around $60 on average in the south.

Yet these numbers may vary from state to state.

“Everything I always get every year, and they have literally increased by like 25 percent,” one person said.

Residents of Jackson have commented on the price of turkey being more than it has in the previous years.

“My turkey this year it was $70,” one person said.

For families that are cooking for more than eight members, the $70 turkey may be relatable.

Aside from buying items, navigating the grocery stores can be even harder.

“It has been hectic. It’s like a tornado inside of Kroger. I was ready to go,” one person said.

And when it comes to everyday shopping, some have noticed prices increased only around the holiday season.

“Grocery shopping this year has skyrocketed, like the prices. I come to this Kroger almost everyday and every week I can tell they are increasing. So this is my shopping for Thanksgiving. It’s ridiculous,” one person said.

The American Farm Bureau reports that the average price for the thanksgiving meal in the Midwest is the cheapest and the northeast prices are more costly.

If you don’t want to shop for that Thanksgiving meal, there are some alternatives.

Some local establishments will be open this Thanksgiving and others will be preparing dishes for you to add to your own family dinner.

You can find all the restaurants participating here.
