JMCSS hosting regional L.E.A.D. program training

JACKSON, Tenn. — Local schools are addressing the prevention of drug use and violence in youth.

The Jackson Madison County School System hosts a regional “Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence” training this week.

The L.E.A.D. Program makes it possible to provide the appropriate resources to connect law enforcement officers and JMCSS educators with prevention curriculum within the classroom.

The goal is that this spreads outside of the school and into the community, making positive changes for youth.

“The preventative measures that can be taken are just huge, in the process of helping our young people,” said Lt. Nicholas Glenn, L.E.A.D. Regional Director for Tennessee and Texas. “And for the Jackson Madison County School System to step up and be the trailblazers in our state to do it this way is… awesome.”

The curriculum is designed for 10 weeks, with five weeks that teach life skills and five weeks that focus on alcohol, drugs and tobacco.
