JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School system is taking a new approach to encourage reading.

The Booksgiving: A Literacy Celebration was held for students and parents tonight at Andrew Jackson Elementary School in North Jackson.

The district-wide event is part of the school system’s ‘Leap up for Literacy’ initiative, aimed at bringing awareness and focus to the importance of reading.

This won’t be the only event like this for the school system.

“We will continue to have events. Hopefully they’ll be monthly events, that we’ll have for our parents and our students that focuses on literacy. And when we have these events, it’s for anyone in the

district to come and be a part of it,” said Jackson-Madison County School system’s Chief Academic Officer Tiffany Spight.

Spight went on to say they hope events like these will spark a love for reading in their students.
