Kristen McKenney gets the ‘spin’ of a lifetime on ‘Wheel of Fortune’
JACKSON, Tenn.—What began as a goal on her bucket list became true for Kristen McKenney.
This opportunity is important to her because she and her mom were ‘wheel watchers’ together.
“My mom, who passed away a couple of years ago, the last two years of her life she was kind of homebound. During COVID we watched it every single night. She would say ‘Kris you need to get on the show you’re so good,” and so I finally made it happen,” said Kristen McKenney, Wheel of Fortune contestant.
This opportunity for McKenny was easy to prepare for.
She studied English in college, loves scrabble, and cross words puzzles so its only right she was chosen.
“They told us they’re like, look we picked you because of your personality. You’re outgoing, just be yourself and just have fun with it and don’t be nervous,” McKenney said.
McKenney has kept her win a secret with her best friend, who was able to be her special guest.
The two haven’t told their families and are happy they can now share this moment with the world.
“I cheered all day long it was great. We shot the whole week in one day. So I got to experience everything, it was amazing. I’m ready for everybody to know how it turned out,” said Kristi Oliver, best friend of Kristen McKenney.
The two best friends also share the love for this game together.
Oliver says that the two had a layover but didn’t let that stop their momentum.
“We got delayed at the airport in Dallas a little bit. It didn’t slow us down, we just took the time to buckle down and quiz a little bit,” Oliver said.
Oliver was also the only familiar face that McKenney had in the audience.
So Oliver being the best friend that she is yelled extra loud for her bestie.
Now that the cats out the bag McKenney can share the end results of the game.
“I won only cash, no trips, no anything. I got to go to the final round. The bonus round but I just didn’t have the letters. It was fun it was worth every minute I was there, I had a blast,” McKenney said.
The bonus round puzzle was “Give me advice,” however McKenney was unable to correctly answer it.
She shared that regardless, the night was amazing and she’s glad she shared it with family and friends.
