SAVANNAH, Tenn. — The City of Savannah’s ninth Christmas on Main has begun!
For the first three weekends of December, the town of Savannah transforms the area around City Hall into a Christmas village.
“We have people coming from miles around, other states, just to be here for Christmas on Main, and it’s a great event for the City of Savannah,” said Savannah Mayor Bob Shutt.
This is Savannah’s ninth year turning their downtown Main Street into a holiday-themed event for families to enjoy.
“We start back in January planning this. This is our biggest event right now for Savannah,” said Stephanie Timbes, the Executive Director of Main Street.
Christmas on Main and all of its many features are free. It includes ice skating at the farmers market, holiday movies at the historic theater situated behind city hall, carriage rides pulled up and down Main Street by a Clydesdale, train rides, food vendors, and several picture opportunities.
“It offers something great to families in Savannah and surrounding areas to come in and have something to do that’s free of charge,” said Tim White, the Economic Development Manager.
And Santa and Mrs. Claus also made a trip to Savannah to get last-minute Christmas lists.
“Kids can come in, write letters to Santa Claus, come back out, give them to the postmaster and we put them in the mail so we make sure that Santa gets their letters. And then they can go right next door and meet Santa himself,” White said.
“If we can add one night of joy to your Christmas season, that’s what we want to do,” Shutt said.
The last two dates for Christmas on Main this year are December 9 and December 15.
