7 kids get to shop with a firefighter for Christmas
JACKSON, Tenn. — Station 5 of the Jackson Fire Department took one family Christmas shopping for the second annual Shop with a Firefighter event. And it was all thanks to a local business.
“So we are a 133-year-old life insurance company it was designed to give back to the community and protect families,” said Brandon Lewis, the Recruiting Sales Manager for WoodmenLife.
The Alexander family was given a shopping limit split by the seven children equally to find their perfect Christmas gifts.
“We had Christmas lists but I don’t think we got anything that was on them. They just started grabbing toys so I think they’re going to have a great Christmas this year,” Lewis said.
The money for the shopping spree was raised through rib cooking and donations from WoodmenLife members.
The Alexander family had an hour to shop, with each child accompanied by their very own fireman friend.
“Tonight we are with WoodmenLife. They sponsor children every year. This is our second year doing it. The kids love it. They have a good time. We have a good time,” said Capt. Jamie Peterson, with Fire Station 5.
The looks on the children’s faces were priceless as they shared their favorite toys.
After their shopping spree, the children met back up with the firefighters at the fire station, where they explored the firetrucks and enjoyed snacks and hot chocolate while volunteers wrapped and readied their gifts for Christmas Day.
Local firefighters team up with WoodmenLife to pick a family to help each year.
