JACKSON, Tenn. – Thursday, the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson held a ribbon cutting for their new STEM lab.
STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math.
The grant of $1.1 million comes from the Tennessee Valley Authority as part of their plan to open 27 STEM centers across the state.
The Boys and Girls Club used the grant to buy six Chromebooks, a tech tub to safely store computers, a 3D printer, educational STEM products, a custom-designed curriculum tied to next-generation science standards, and other equipment.
Sabrina Anderson, the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson, shared more about the benefits of STEM programs.
“We want to offer our kids a sense of belonging, a sense of usefulness, influence, and competence. And so when they come to the club they get to eat, and they get to have fun, they get to hang out with their friends, and that’s the best part,” Anderson said.
Representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority were also in attendance at the ribbon cutting.
