Long-time poet pays homage to late doctor

JACKSON, Tenn. – A long-time poet and author paid homage to a man who impacted many lives.

Velmar “Peewee Hale” Johnson wrote a poem that has been included in the Who’s Who in American Poetry 2023.

Her poem paid tribute to the late Dr. Benjamin Mauck, who specialized in hand, wrist, shoulder, and pediatric surgery at the Campbell Clinic located in Collierville and Germantown in Shelby County.

Hale stated that she heard of the doctor’s great works and that she wanted his accomplishments to live on.

“When something happens to a family member, you know, it’s going to touch you and hurt you and make you feel sad in your heart and soul. So I wanted to do something to honor the man and give his wife some encouragement and let her know that he didn’t die in vain,” Johnson said.

You can order a copy of the poem online at Eber and Wein Publishing.
