Dancers from the Hub City perform in Humboldt
HUMBOLDT, Tenn.– Mona Lisa Lanier School of Dance performed at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for the annual Christmas musical.
Members of the church as well as guest were able to enjoy singing and dancing from members of the community.
This opportunity was special to Lanier.
“Mr. and Mrs. Willie Poston started this program. A Christmas program and I was so happy to do it. Because he gave my first job here in Humboldt. I taught for here for eleven years. So my performance is dedicated to him and his wife and my students are Humboldt city school system,” Mona Lisa, owner and choreographer for Mona Lisa Lanier Dance School says.
This performance had three different songs that dancers performed to.
Lanier says that these were chosen because, some people are facing challenges and separations from families this holiday season.
“But with the gospel songs Total Praise, Order my Step, the Goodness of God I wanted to do all three of them to show the world we care,” Lanier adds.
Dancers are from ages 11 to 17 all performing over five different numbers…
These young ladies have been practicing liturgical since September however. this is a new dance team for these ladies.
“So, we started practicing in September it was a whole batch of new dancers and it was like oh my goodness. Then today we got out there and it feels like everybody has been together for years,” Ariel Faulkner, dancer of Mona Lisa Lanier school of dance, says.
One dancer says why one of the three songs is her favorite.
“Out of today I think Goodness of God is the best. We have been practicing that since last summer. It’s been hard very hard breathe taking but it’s the soul of the dance that everything worth it,” Astaria Godwin, dancer of Mona Lisa Lanier school of dance, adds.
Lanier also says that she was over filled with joy to see old friends and dancers at the musical.
The Mona Lisa Lanier school of dance next performance will be May 2nd of 2024.
