Additional information on the food pantry at First United Methodist Church Lexington
The First United Methodist Church in Lexington hosted a Mobile Food Pantry and food giveaway on Saturday, December 23.
The church has been helping families with these food giveaways for several years now.
This year alone with the help of Second Harvest, the church had over 26,000 pounds of food to give way.
FUMC Food Pantry manager, Alba Crockett says she has seen the needs of the community and how these events can help.
“Most holidays…it’s around food and that’s what you want to do, eat and have plenty to eat. And we know that a lot of our neighbors don’t have that privilege to have exactly what they want to eat,” Crockett said.
While the food pantry at the church is opened weekly to families in need, FUMC Pastor Roger Brown says at least once a year they try to offer the food giveaways on a larger scale.
“We are offering food to anyone in Henderson County that needs it, and we will serve upwards of 100 families today in our community,” Pastor Brown said.
Pastor Brown says this event would not be possible without food and monetary donations and the help of its volunteers.
