Hub Classic Tournament held once again
JACKSON, Tenn. – The sounds of cheers, whistles, and shoes skidding across the court returned for another year of making a difference in the lives of people in our community.
“It’s a three-day tournament. It has six girls’ teams and eight boys’ teams competing this year. So it’s a fundraiser for Area Relief Ministries at the end of the year,” said Fred McKinnie, the Director of Operations for Area Relief Ministries.
The Hub Classic Tournament started 11 years ago bringing awareness and funds to some needed programs that Area Relief Ministries offers.
“It helps us to continue Room in the Inn, our shelter program, job training program, fresh start, and also our Open ARM Day Center that we have for the homeless. And the day center is for anybody that’s homeless. That’s men, women, and children,” McKinnie said.
Local teams compete for three days.
There are six girl teams from Chester, Crockett, and Madison counties, and eight boy teams from Chester, Crockett, Lauderdale, Madison, and Shelby counties, according to the press release.
‘They enjoy it and they can’t, you know, can’t wait to the next year. We have some teams that compete every year like Crockett County. So it’s a great thing and they love to be here and we love to host,” McKinnie said.
Madison County Mayor AJ Massey, Councilwoman Julie Holt, and United Way of West Tennessee’s Matt Marshall to name more are expected to not only make an appearance but also take their shots.
“And we have Kelsea Merriweather that’s going to perform live, singing this Saturday before the championship games,” McKinnie said.
The tournament begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. each day at Liberty.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door. Concessions are also available for purchase and the parking is free.
