Few Light Showers or Wintry Mix Lingers Tonight, Cool & Dry Weekend
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Well most of West Tennessee just saw a cold rain today, but there were a few reports of light snow, sleet and freezing rain. We are going to have to wait awhile longer for our first real snow of the season as mostly dry, but cold weather will be dominating the forecast into next week.
Skies will clear out late tonight and plenty of sunshine is coming for the holiday weekend. The warmest day in the forecast will be on Sunday but the next front passes just in time for the new year to begin. A cold start to 2024 looks to be on the way. Catch the latest forecast details right here.
TONIGHT:
The best shot for some light snow this week came during the afternoon Friday on the backside of a low pressure system. We didn’t see much snow but there was a brief wintry mix and some spitting light snow showers reported in some areas. Most of us just encountered some cold light rain during the day. The winds shifted to the northwest and will vary in direction and be light tonight. Highs on Friday only reached the upper 30s for most of the region. Friday night lows will fall down to around 30°. We are expecting the clouds to break up slowly and clear out late overnight into Saturday morning.

THE WEEKEND:
We are looking at a pretty quiet but cool weekend leading up to New Year’s Eve. The winds will shift back to the southwest on Saturday helping to warm us back up to the upper 40s. We are also expecting the clouds to move out on Saturday morning but that could lead to a chilly night Saturday night with lows falling down to around 30°.

Sunday highs will reach back into the low to mid 50s but we should see mostly sunny skies again during the day on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the 30s for those of you staying out late celebrating in the new year on Sunday night behind a cold front. The weekend forecast looks dry as of now but on New Year’s Day, a system is going to pass to our south and may look to impact some areas in the Mid South. We will be keeping a close eye on it as the weekend goes on.

NEXT WEEK:
A cold front will move through early on New Year’s Day making for a cold start to the new year. Highs on Monday will only reach the low 40s and mid to upper 40s are expected on Tuesday. We will stay in the 40s on Wednesday but an approaching storm system will bring our next chance for some shower activity as well. There is a system on Monday that will pass just to our south but might increase the clouds a bit on New Year’s Day. Mostly sunny skies should return on Tuesday before the clouds build back in for Wednesday. The winds will come out of the northwest to kick off the week behind the front. Overnight lows will be an issue, especially on Tuesday morning when low 20s will look to return to the region. The next chance for showers for most of us will return on Wednesday.

FINAL THOUGHT:
Some of us saw our first flurries of the season in West Tennessee on Friday but it wasn’t much and didn’t cause any major travel issues across the region. Some light flurries or cold rain could linger overnight but we are looking at a dry weekend to wrap up 2023 and kick off the new year. We are expecting a cold start to the new year as well behind a front coming late on New Year’s Eve.
