Donation surge hits Goodwill location

JACKSON, Tenn.—Steve Jobs says “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

One business loves giving back to the community.

Goodwill retail store is holding their end of the year donation surge. This allows people to clear out their closets and garages to make room for holiday gifts.

We spoke to the Assistant Manager, TJ Haycraft, who stated that it is pivotal to have this event.

“A lot of people are cleaning out toward the end of the year to get that last tax write-off, so we always have a big surge at the end of the year, it’s one of our biggest times for donations,” Haycraft said.

It’s so much to the point where Haycraft can’t contain her joy.

“We get super excited because it’s so much stuff that comes in. It’s exciting,” Haycraft said.

Haycraft also stated that she loves the idea of what Goodwill’s mission is.

“Our donations provide education training and job placement for other people,” Haycraft said.

Speaking of the people, Haycraft even stated that she has heard good feedback in regards to the donations.

“We had a family in here at Christmas time and they said that if it weren’t for Goodwill, they wouldn’t be able to buy Christmas for their children. They had a real conversation with me about that,”Haycraft said.

One loyal Associate, Mike Collins, was on standby making sure that the bins filled with items were being properly transported from the participants cars to the bins.

Always consider the one year rule. If it hasn’t been worn, used or played with, it’s probably time to donate it.

“You would be totally surprised how many things that are in this store that are brand new still with tags so people make a purchase and they maybe don’t have time to return it or they wait too late to return it so they just donate it,” Haycraft said.

The worst thing we can do is turn a blind eye to someone in need. The best thing we can do is to give them everything that they need.

You still have the opportunity to donate items until tomorrow.

You can do so by bringing your items to the Goodwill location on South Highland.
