Routine traffic stop ends in arrest at Skyline Drive

JACKSON, Tenn. – A routine traffic stop ended with one person arrested.

We received a call from several of our WBBJ 7 Eyewitness tipsters regarding heavy police presence on the corner of Skyline Drive and North Highland Avenue.

One of our team members arrived and saw Jackson police checking out the scene.

There appeared to be a Ford Taurus with the driver’s door open and officers examining the car.

The Jackson Police Department says it was a routine stop gone wrong.

Around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, officers with JPD’s Gang Unit made a traffic stop on someone they recognized to have a warrant.

Investigators say officers proceeded with the routine stop and that’s when the driver produced a gun and fired shots.

No one was hurt and the driver is now in custody.

This is an ongoing investigation with the Jackson Police Department.
