Historic school to be transformed to serve new purpose
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – The historic Malesus School will soon become a district hub for several innovative middle school programs.
The Malesus STEM Innovation Center is a school within a school model.
Students will stay enrolled in their home middle school for part of the day.
The other half of the day will be at the Innovation Center where they will study science, math, technology, and engineering along with other electives offered.
“Students learn what they’re interested in learning. So, the concept at the Malesus STEM Innovation Center is that we offer those skills and standards in math and science in a way that is also practical, hands-on, meaningful, authentic learning,” said Teresa McSweeney, the Chief Innovation Officer for JMCSS.
Registration is open now through February 1, for current 6th and 7th grade students.
The center will open in August of this year.
