Local church gives back to the Hub City community

JACKSON, Tenn. – A local church has resources that they want to share with the Hub City community.

Popular Heights Church offers numerous resources to those in need, from clothes to food and even support groups.

Their God’s Will Closet began as an idea from God and eventually became a place where men, women, and children could find clothes, toys, and other resources.

“Every day people were leaving stuff in my driveway, at the church, calling me to come pick up stuff. It was definitely confirmed that this was God’s will and that why it’s called God’s Will,” said Pam Rudder, a volunteer at Popular Heights Church.

These items are free for the community and are donated by others.

In the past, they were able to furnish apartments for members and they hope that they can continue to leave this impact on the community.

“And so this is just a step in the direction of our church exercising kindness, and love, grace and mercy. Which is what we’re taught to do as Christians. And one of the many ways we try to help, and I think it helps the community by letting the church know we’re here,” said Richard Bragg, the Senior Pastor at Popular Heights Church.

Another program they offer is Celebrate Recovery, which is a way for those who are struggling with addictions to come into a judgment-free space to better themselves.

“Celebrate Recovery meets every Tuesday night at 6:30. From 6:30 to 8:30. We have a celebration time together which is there in the name about celebrating the hope that God gives us and the new life he wants us to have,” Bragg said.

They also participate in the “Give Jack.” This is a program that is around the City of Jackson.

These are boxes filled with food items for anyone hungry.

“The blessing box operates on the premise of take what you need and give what you can. And so if anybody wants to donate or they need anything, they need to get in touch with us,” Rudder said.

Popular Heights God’s Will is open on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from noon until 5 p.m.
