Madison County Commission meets for first time in 2024

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – The Madison County Commission’s first budget meeting of the new year was held Wednesday.

Old business was discussed, including a motion approved to increase commissioners’ pay with a resolution to be voted on next month.

There was an amendment request for $30,000 for the sheriff’s office to cover maintenance repairs and inspections for elevators in the Criminal Justice Complex and HVAC in the district attorney and public defender’s offices.

Other businesses included a review of the 2024 school budget calendar.

A proposal was approved for roughly $15,000 from the county for emergency funding needed for roofing repair at Jackson-Madison County Public Library.

“Well, we’re very thankful for the support of the county and thankful that they realized the importance of maintaining our building and especially our archival area which houses many materials that can’t be replaced,” said Dinah Harris, the Director of the Jackson-Madison County Public Library.

The meeting concluded with the review of audited funds that show $22,333,000 in general funds as of the end of the year.
