Giveaway offers students the tools for success

JACKSON, Tenn.—One man is giving children the tools they need to succeed in school.

Javonte Butler, hosted a backpack drive titled “Get in Your Bag” at the Boys and Girls Club in east Jackson.

Butler told us he wanted to help the youth in the Hub City who may not have a backpack or the supplies they need for school.

Butler says he came up with the idea after a conversation with his mother, who suggested the idea to him.

Butler then reached out to some friends who had small businesses and helped donate money for the backpacks and supplies.

“They are packed with the essential needs like paper, pencils, folders, markers, crayons, and colored pencils. Some have pencil bags, some have pens and pencils,” Butler said.

The backpacks were absolutely free. Butler says whatever backpacks have not been claimed will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club, then distributed to kids in the Jackson-Madison County School System.

Butler also says he plans on doing more for the community in the future.
