As homelessness rises, experts share solutions, facts
JACKSON, Tenn. – Homelessness is on the rise and a few experts shared facts and potential solutions for this crisis.
Ann Oliva, the CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, says that when everyone in a community has safe and affordable housing, that community is stronger.
Oliva also went on to say that the City of Chattanooga has had quite a bit of success in solving its homelessness problem.
She says other communities can look to them to try and find better solutions.
Donald Whitehead, the Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, says we need to shy away from criminalizing homelessness.
He also goes on to talk about other solutions.
“When we look at the numbers in Tennessee, we recognize that there is a gap in affordable housing units of 132,000. So the first solution is to create more affordable housing,” said Donald Whitehead, the Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless.
