What to remember when winter weather begins
JACKSON, Tenn. – With the possibility of challenging weather conditions, there are a few things to remember.
With expected snow showers and heavy winds on the way, we would like to provide a few tips for you and your family to travel safely.
One important point to remember is to slow down.
Driving slow decreases the chances of hydroplaning or skidding in your vehicle.
We spoke to the City Manager of Savannah, Blake Walley, who gave us his insight on driving in this expected upcoming weather.
“I would not get out unless you have to if it does snow. Definitely keep an eye on the weather,” Walley said.
Especially if it’s icy.
“If you see ice or snow in certain areas, don’t drive across it unless you have to. If you have four-wheel drive, I would suggest using that or having somebody that has four-wheel drive if you must get on it,” Walley said.
Walley stated that in case the weather does get bad, make sure that you have everything you need inside of the house.
“I would suggest stocking up on any needed groceries or water…milk. Anything you may need over the weekend before it gets here just in case you do get snowed in,” Walley said.
Having proper maintenance is also important during threatening weather like this.
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Kaitlin Nichelson spoke to TJ Reeves, the sales and service supervisor at Firestone, and he stated that we should always have our auto fluids changed properly.
“It’s a good thing to go and get your coolant checked just to make sure the freeze level is low enough and that it’s topped off the way it should be,” Reeves said.
But why exactly is coolant important for your car?
“The main thing is that it keeps the motor from overheating, but another thing it also does is it’s actually what puts heat into the car. Whenever you turn the heat on, the coolant is sending heat from the engine into the car,” Reeves said.
