Jackson-Madison County educator is honored posthumously
JACKSON, Tenn.—A trailblazer in the Jackson-Madison County School System is honored posthumously during a special program today.
Dr. Maxine Stewart, who was the first female principal in Jackson City Schools was recognized and honored today at the Kirkendoll Center at Lane College.
Dr. Stewart was a graduate of Jackson City Schools; she obtained her Bachelor of Science from Lane College. A degree from Southern Illinois University and a degree from the University of Memphis.

“She was an excellent principal. I had her as a teacher and she was phenomenal in the various things she did in the community as well as the educational area,” said Dr. Patricia Brooks, Program Sponsor.
Dr. Stewart died in 2015. She was part of a long list of female principals to serve in the Jackson-Madison County School System.
