McCaig’s Movie Mayhem: Special Entertainment News Edition
Due to the weather, Eli was unable to watch a new movie this week. Instead, he decided to run down the top entertainment news stories of the week.
First up, the Emmy Awards took place this past Sunday with “The Bear” and “Succession” winning the majority of the awards. “The Bear” won six of the major awards, including outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series, outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, and outstanding comedy series.
“Succession” also walked away with six major awards, including outstanding lead actor in a drama series, outstanding lead actress in a drama series, outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, and outstanding drama series.
Next up, the Sundance Film Festival began Friday with films such as “Freaky Tales” starring Pedro Pascal, “Thelma” starring June Squibb, and “Ghostlight” starring Keith Kupferer all making their theatrical debuts.
Next, the director-actor combo of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are teaming up once again for a new, original film from Coogler and his production company Proximity Media. Not much is known about the film except that it is a genre-style picture.
And finally, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has released the nominations for the upcoming BAFTA awards. “Oppenheimer” currently leads with a total of 13 nominations, which include best actor in a leading role, best actress in a supporting role, best actor in a supporting role, best director, and best film. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 18, and will air on the BritBox streaming service for residents in the United States.
