Winter weather causes blood donations to fall short

JACKSON, Tenn. – With the roads being slick and icy, not many people could get out and do the things that they normally do, like give blood.

This has affected LIFELINE Blood Services. Melinda Reid, the Marketing Manager at LIFELINE, shared what repercussions they have seen from the weather.

“The winter weather has greatly impacted our blood collections this week. It has been a hindrance on folks coming out to our blood drives and into our centers in Jackson and in Dyersburg. So we are urging donors to come on in and carve out a little bit of their time to donate and give the gift of life,” Reid said.

If you would like to come out and donate blood, Reid talked about some times when you can come into their locations.

“Today donors can give the gift of life by donating to our center in Jackson from 9 to 6. No appointment is ever necessary, just walk right on in. In Dyersburg our center is open from 8 to 4 and no appointment is necessary as well. So we really have a desperate need for all blood types. We encourage donors, if it’s been eight weeks or 56 days since your last life-giving donation, to come on in and donate to give the gift of life,” Reid said.

If you need a bit of an incentive to get up and get to LIFELINE, then you are in luck. They are having a special offer right now for anyone who comes to donate blood.

“We have a great promotion going on right now. Every donor will receive a $25 e-gift card for donating. And this is for our mobile blood drives and for both centers in Jackson and Dyersburg,” Reid said.

They can do this because they are on a critical appeal at the moment.

LIFELINE held mobile blood drives in Lexington and Medina on Friday.

Their locations in both Jackson and Dyersburg will be open Saturday.
