Sports card show raises funds for local Special Olympics athletes
MARTIN, Tenn. — A sports card show was held Saturday morning in Martin.
The show gave dealers and collectors a chance to shop and sell their sports cards.
These cards ranged from football, basketball, baseball, and everywhere in between throughout a multitude of decades.
Funds raised from the sports card show will benefit over 400 athletes in Special Olympics activities in Lake, Obion, Weakley, Henry, and Carroll Counties.
Clinton Smith, the area director for the Upper West Tennessee Special Olympics, tell us more about what kind of sports they participate in and how the funds raised support their mission.
“We participate in bowling, basketball, track and field, we attend the state summer games,” Smith said. “A couple of years ago, we had an athlete at the USA games, so that money helps those athletes participate in those events; helps us to buy supplies, buy t-shirts, all those kinds of things for those kids and then of course training and competition.”
Saturday, the Special Olympics of Upper West Tennessee held a polar plunge to raise funds.
