Man and dog rescued from frozen lake by first responders

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. – A resident in Benton County attempted to rescue his dog from drowning in a frozen lake.

On Monday, January 22, a Benton County resident jumped into a pond in his back yard to save his dog from drowning.

His wife was on the phone with the sheriff’s office when the dog was under water.

She was giving step-by-step details to deputies then her husband jumped in to save his four legged friend.

Animal control arrived at the scene first and soon after the rescue squad followed along with deputies.

The rescue squad arrived with a boat to fetch the man and the dog out of the water.

The man was soon taken to the Benton County hospital.

“So all of them did an excellent job by saving somebody as cold as the water is. I think they all did great. Rescue squad threw a boat into the pond and paddled out there to him. And for the man and his dog to be able to hold on that long,” said Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher.

The man and dog are said to both be fine from any injuries or hypothermia, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
