Conference offers residents insight into business cooperatives
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—The Southeast Center for Cooperative Development hosted a press conference and community meeting in Brownsville today.
The conference was held at LiUNA Local 386 located at 120 South Dupree Street in Brownsville.
The event was an opportunity to share information regarding the potential for worker-owned businesses in West Tennessee especially with the incoming BlueOval city.
The conference also informed residents about the history of the co-ops and discusses opportunities for residents to consider developing their own over the next year.
The meeting included local officials, residents and other community members.
Speakers included Vice Mayor of Mason, Virginia Rivers, USDA State Director, Arlisa Armstrong, Ed Whitfield of Seed Commons, Will Cardenas of LiUNA and Tiffany Boyd of Dyer Co. NAACP.
“We’re here to celebrate unity this morning with prayer with our ROTC and our Junior City Council,” said Brownsville Mayor William Rawls.
Lunch was served after the press conference.
