Exchange Club hosts Mayor AJ Massey as he shares goals for 2024
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – Madison County Mayor AJ Massey met with the Jackson National Exchange Club to share his goals for 2024.
He shared the budget for this year and the improvements he and his team will make.
One area of improvement that he shared was regarding the winter storm.
“We have debriefed this last week and looked at our opportunities for improvement on the roads issue with the snow. It was a learning experience for me, understanding how our departments, what their initial plans was, how we’re going to change that,” Massey said.
Massey shared that there is room for improvement but he thinks the roads were handled well.
He shared the possibility of Jackson receiving more snow equipment.
“I think we’re going to explore equipping all of the snow plow trucks with the salt. That’s just two salt spreaders that will help us get that better. There’s also some opportunities for other counties departments to jump on board,” Massey said.
Mayor Massey says shared more information regarding the McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport being improved to possibly fly more passengers and a longer distance.
Also, he shared that his team is in the process of updating a few roads and sewer issues.
After announcing the Children’s Cabinet a week ago, he added a possible opportunity for the city to grow.
“We all heard from people about, ‘How can I get involved?’ And that’s a great problem to have. We kind of had to scram and set up a volunteer network and get them plugged in after these pursuits. These pursuits they’re passionate about is the first step,” Massey said.
Massey also shared an update on the Great Wolf Lodge, Pope Elementary School, and the new state park in Three Way.
He says they’ll all be here before we know it.
