UPDATE: Arrest made after threats posted towards Liberty High School

UPDATE as of 5:30 p.m. on January 30, 2024:

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says an arrest was made in connection to threats made via Facebook towards Liberty High School on Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office reports that a 16-year-old Liberty Technology High School student was arrested and is charged with making threats of mass violence towards schools.

The news release says that the student was arrested at a home in Jackson and was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Jackson, Tennessee – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, specifically the School Resource Officer Division and Criminal Investigation Division, has made an arrest in connection with the incident detailed
in the previous press release.

A 16-year-old student at Liberty Technology High School has been arrested and charged with making threats of mass violence towards schools under TCA 39-16-517. The student was recently arrested at a residence within the City of Jackson and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Madison County Sheriff Julian Wiser commends the MCSO School Resource Officer Division and the Criminal Investigation Division for their swift investigation, resulting in the prompt arrest in connection with this incident.

Sheriff Wiser states, “We will continue to provide an extra law enforcement presence at Liberty Technology High School throughout the rest of the week. We must remain vigilant and work together as a community to ensure the safety of our students within the Jackson-Madison County School System.”

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office states that an investigation is underway into the threats made via Facebook towards Liberty High School.

Their news release on Tuesday says School Resource Officers and and the Criminal Investigation Division are pursuing leads and are “actively investigating a potential suspect.”

They add that they, and the Jackson Police Department, are working to enhance law enforcement presence at the Liberty basketball game scheduled for Tuesday night at Jackson Central-Merry.

Extra security measures are also being put into place at Liberty High School for the rest of the week.

Jackson, Tennessee – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is actively engaged in an investigation following a recent social media threat posted on Facebook, specifically targeting Liberty High School.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Division, are diligently pursuing leads related to the threat and are actively investigating a potential suspect.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and the situation is considered fluid at this time. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is committed to keeping the public informed and will provide updates and additional information as it becomes available.

In the meantime, the Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Jackson-Madison County School System and the Jackson Police Department to enhance law enforcement presence at the Liberty basketball game scheduled for tonight at Jackson Central Merry High School.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, extra security measures are being implemented, including the presence of additional School Resource Officers (SROs) and deputies on campus at Liberty High School throughout the remainder of the week.

JACKSON, Tenn. – WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News has been made aware by tipsters of what appears to be threatening posts made about a local school.

We were first made aware of the posts – at least three in total – around 3:15 p.m., and the posts themselves seem to have been shared to Facebook.

We have reached out to the Jackson-Madison County School System, who stated they are in talks with the Jackson Police Department.

According to the school system, the principal of Liberty Technology High School has sent out an email to staff and families to let them know they are also aware of the post.

The school system says he is also in contact with law enforcement.

The police department says they are aware of the post, and they are “working with and in communication with the school system and the sheriff department.”

We have also reached out to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. We are awaiting a response.
