Women arrested after fentanyl seizure face drug, child abuse charges

PARIS, Tenn. — Two women were arrested after a large fentanyl seizure in West Tennessee.

According to the Paris Police Department, 49-year-old Genning Burnett and 24-year-old Samantha McClain — both of Paris — were arrested on Saturday.

Paris Police say a search warrant was executed at an apartment on the afternoon of January 27, where both Burnett and McClain were present, along with two minors.

During the search, police say officers recovered multiple “baggies” of fentanyl in different grades and forms, such as pills and powders.

According to police, other narcotics and a loaded handgun were also found during the search.

A press release confirms both adults were charged with possession of a schedule II narcotic with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and aggravated child abuse and neglect. Burnett was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and possession of a schedule V narcotic (Gabapentin), the release states.

Paris Police say both minors were released to guardians and a referral was made to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services for a follow up investigation.

At the time of this report, records available online indicate McClain remains in custody at the Henry County jail, while Burnett has since bonded out.
