‘God calls us all.’ Retired medic shares experience from around the world

JACKSON, Tenn. – A retired medical expert shared his experience as part of a medical team in some of the most dangerous areas in the world.

“I’ve just answered a call. God calls us all,” said Bill Ragon, a retired nurse anesthetist. He spoke to the Jackson Rotary Club on Wednesday.

He is a well-known and often requested nurse all because he would pray with his patients before and after surgery.

“It gives them a peace and a calmness that only comes from God,” Ragon said.

After 42 years of full-time anesthesia practice, Ragon spent the last 18 months working with Samaritan’s Purse

“We’re going to be the good Samaritans, whoever you are, and that’s what we do,” Ragon said.

This is a non-denominational organization that provides relief and aid through the hope of Jesus to those in war zones and disaster areas.

“Seeing people suffer affects your heart. And being able to be the hands and feet of God to take care of them, it’s pretty good. A pretty good gig,” Ragon said.

On his journey, Ragon continued to pray for those in other countries.

To him it didn’t matter about religious denomination, ethnicity, or language barriers, he knew God was listening.

“God’s a great interpreter,” Ragon said.

Ragon spent time healing others in six different countries, including South Sudan, Ukraine, and Turkey during the 18-month-long journey.
