Conference highlights new data for producers of grain, soybeans

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Extension hosted the 2024 West Tennessee Grain and Soybean Producers Conference at the Fairgrounds in Dyer County.

Hundreds of people attended the conference bright and early on Thursday morning to talk with one another and learn from each other.

Dr. Ashely Stokes, the dean of the UT Extension, talked about the conference.

“I tell you what, this is a great opportunity for our producers to come together and learn all of the latest trial data and a lot of other information to kind of help them in their production. They are feeding the world right?” Stokes said.

There were many booths set up all around the facility. Hunter Goodman, an Ag Agent, says it is great to see all of the different products and learn something new from each station.

“I mean it’s really a one-stop shop. You got people from Behr, Pioneer, FSA, Farm Bureau. I mean, if there’s an organization in ag, they’re gonna be here for you,” said Hunter Goodman, an Ag Agent.

There were many speakers at the conference for anyone to listen to. Stokes says it is important for the UT Extension to provide its resources to the producers in West Tennessee.

“We really like to be able to bring the information we have through research and be able to share that and really help our producers and their farming practices. They’re incredible stewards of our lands, and so how we can support them is great. So it’s all about education today,” Stokes said.

Stokes says the heart of grain and soybean production is in West Tennessee, so being able to get everyone together makes for a great day.

Representatives from the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board and the Tennessee Corn Promotion Council were on site to provide updates on industry news and plans for this year.
