Tiptonville hosts the 20th Annual Eagle Festival
TIPTONVILLE, Tenn.—This weekend was the 20th Annual Eagle Festival at Reelfoot Lake.
Reelfoot Lake, a 15,000-acre lake, was created in the early 1800s when earthquakes caused the Mississippi River to flow backward. Reelfoot Lake houses about 2,000 migrating eagles during the winter before they migrate to the Mississippi River Valley.
This family-friendly event consisted of tours and interpretive programs. During the two-hour tour, participants saw eagles perching in their nests, flying around the lake, and snatching fish.
“So Reelfoot historically has been one of the places to see numerous bald eagles, easy to see, driving around just looking out the car window, not just going in a boat. A lot of places you can see them by boat, fewer places can you see them easily out of bus window or vehicle window,” said David Haggard, Regional Naturalist for Tennessee State Parks.
You have until the end of February to attend one of the eagle tours.
