UT Martin students find a way to help cancer patients
MARTIN, Tenn.— Every year, February 4th is World Cancer Day. Today is a day to raise cancer awareness and encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.
The Student Nurses Association sponsored the Be The Match Drive. Be The Match is a bone marrow and stem cell registry. Every 3 to 4 minutes, someone is diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. Seventy percent of patients who need bone marrow will not find a match.
If you are between 18 and 40, you are eligible to be on the donor register. Registration is as easy as feeling out a questionnaire and swabbing your cheek. If you want more information about being a donor, call 1 (800) 627-7692 from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.
