Dyersburg officers arrest suspect who stole vehicle with baby on board

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Local authorities announce an arrest in a kidnapping and auto theft that occurred Tuesday.

According to the Dyersburg Police Department, officers received a distress call on Tuesday afternoon about a stolen vehicle with an infant on board.

Police shared that the owner of the vehicle, who is the infant’s grandfather, followed the stolen vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle was wrecked on Parr Avenue just before K9 Officer Haynes and Officer Davidson arrived on scene.

Dyersburg Police say their actions “saved the day” by acting fast to ensure the infant’s safety.

The department says after a brief foot pursuit, 29-year-old Demite Warren was apprehended.

Warren is facing charges of theft of vehicle, kidnapping, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, evading arrest and vandalism.

He’s currently in custody at the Dyer County Jail pending further action.
