FHU awards honorary doctorate
HENDERSON, Tenn. – A local university awards one man with a big honor.
Wednesday, Freed-Hardeman University presented Roy Johnson with an honorary doctorate of humanities for his outstanding citizenship and service to the church.
Johnson was a top-level executive for the Boy Scouts of America for 23 years before becoming Executive Director of Lads to Leaders in January of 2003.
That’s an organization committed to nurturing youth into Christian leaders.
Johnson has also preached for more than 50 years.
“He’s a man who truly has a servant’s heart and reflects the nature and the love of God, and we really were glad that we had the opportunity to honor him tonight,” said David Shannon, the President of Freed-Hardeman.
The presentation is part of Freed-Hardeman’s 88th annual Bible Lectureship, which is taking place this week.
