Woman killed in Crockett County fire on Wednesday
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a house fire that led to a woman’s death in Gadsden.
The Gadsden, Alamo, Bells, and Friendship Fire Departments, Gadsden Police Department, Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, and the Crockett County Ambulance Service responded to the scene shortly before noon Wednesday.
“The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call from someone passing by that the residents here at 194 Mason Street, in the city limits of Gadsden, was on fire,” said Steve Sutton, the Public Information Officer for the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office.
Gadsden Fire, who were first on scene due to the proximity, conducted a primary search immediately on arrival which resulted in the discovery of a woman in the house.
“And upon the primary search, they were able to find a decedent that was located inside the house close to an exit. The identity of the decedent is unconfirmed at this time,” Sutton said.
Gadsden police began an attempt to resuscitate the female victim. However, they were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a statement made by the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office via social media, the name of the female victim will not be released until the next of kin is notified and they have an identification.
Gadsden Police began investigating the cause of the fire.
“We’re unable to determine the cause of the fire at this time. The cause is under investigation,” Sutton said.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will lead the ongoing investigation.
