Black History Month celebrations continue in the Hub City
JACKSON, Tenn. – Music and poetry filled downtown Jackson on Friday as the community gathered for the city’s Black History Month celebration at City Hall.
This month, the city is showcasing visual and performing art from members of the city’s Black community.
Also during February, visual art exhibits are on display, featuring the works of numerous artists.
In addition to the exhibits, African American culture will be celebrated in the performing arts through music, poetry, and dance.
“To be able to bring my talent home and read it here in front of people here in my hometown is a special treat for me,” said Bill Marable, the President of the Board of Directors of The Griot Collective.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to have that freedom to just go to express yourself and share your talent. And you have so much support from all the other Jackson people that live here in the community. I think it’s just a great thing and it’s an honor,” said Lontia Dickerson, a performer/singer.
City Hall will be lit with red, yellow, and green lights for February in celebration.
