A local sorority chapter celebrates 116 years of service

JACKSON, Tenn.—Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Gamma Alpha Omega Chapter celebrated one hundred and sixteen years of sisterhood.

The celebration took place at Liberty Tech High School earlier today.

The event served to honor the legacy, commitment, and sisterhood that has defined the sorority through the years.

During the program, local high school seniors were recognized by the sorority as “Alpha scholars” in the areas of academics, fine arts, athletics, and community service.

“We also do community service projects where we go out in the community. One of our big things right now is called the chip organization, where we provide meals for our students from the beginning of the year to the end of the year,” said Stalita Rivers, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.

The sorority also presented the “Most Precious Pearl” award to one of its chapter members that exemplifies sisterliness, unselfishness, and a commitment to service and sisterhood.
