Salem Missionary Baptist Church hosts a special program
JACKSON, Tenn.—A local church honors Black History Month with a special program.
A special service was held this morning at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Northeast Jackson.
The service included personal stories from church members who shared their experiences dealing with segregation.
These stories reflected both the struggles and triumphs of obtaining an education and finding employment.
The program also included the history of the church itself.
Reverend Nathan Crisp Sr. says it’s important for youth to understand the importance of Black History and knowing where they came from, the importance of fellowship and finding peace with one another.
“Because so many people don’t know about Black history, and our young people really don’t. They think everything has always been like it is now, but that’s not the case. They don’t get it in the school system, and so the church is the first best place to get it,” said Clementine Spencer, Church Mother.
Spencer invites people to come talk to her about her personal experience and growing up during segregation.
